About the Event
TERM 4 : Cooking Club - After School Program
Introducing culinary skills at a young age can lay the foundations for a lifetime of enjoyment around food preparation, nutrition and eating. It has endless benefits that range from social/emotional & physical development, as well as cognitive and language development.
Evolved Wellbeing will be facilitating our first After School cooking program specifically for our junior chefs in primary school year 3 to 6.
Each week, for 5 weeks we will deliver a class that runs on a Tuesday from 3.30pm - 4.30pm
We will focus on each class being easily replicable at home, inexpensive to feed a family and delicious while being nutritionally diverse (& aiming to encourage your child to make it again & again!).
The food will be engaging to the senses and will encourage enquiry from curious foodie minds!!
The overall aim is to deliver basic introductory kitchen skills such as how to safely work with sharp objects/heat, basic food preparation, food safety and hygiene and general concept of involving the senses in relation to flavour and presentation.
We will have a loose theme each week (example countries; Mexican or food type; eggs, meal type; Breakfast etc) and will be based on seasonal availability.
Last program we ran the following classes:
- Egg-citing Eggs: Poach eggs, make egg based dressing & caeser salad
- Burger from the Caribbean : Marinating & cooking chicken, grilling pineaple, create a spice rub & make a chicken burger
- Pasta Carbonara: Pasta dough from scratch, make sauce for carbonara
- Tasty Tostada; Vegetarian Mexican refried beans, guacamole to create tostada
- Class conclusion: Apple crumble & surprise creative session
The Cooking Club - After School program will be limited to a maximum of 6 children to provide the best learning experience for everyone.
The children will have 100% hands on creation of their own dish, they will make around a 2 portion sized meal, so not enough to serve for dinner but maybe enough to eat some to quell the after school hungry & a little left over to share and show to family.
